PCSG’s Mark Stodgell ranked 4th in World Masters Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships

PCSG Associate Director, Mark Stodgell has just returned from Kaunas, Lithuania having spent last weekend racing in the World Masters Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO) Championships.

After 30 minutes of racing with over 200 competitors from around the world, Mark missed out on a bronze medal by just 5 seconds to come home a very close 4th in the Men’s 40+ category last Sunday.

The MTBO sport combines cross country mountain bike racing with navigation at speed, the winner being the fastest competitor to navigate between a series of control points marked on a specialist orienteering map, choosing their own route.

The racing was held over maze of tracks on a tough sand dune and forest course close to Kaunas city centre. The annual event attracted in total 350 of the world’s best elite and masters MTBO competitors from 22 countries, including 18 from the UK.

Mark is also the UK’s Senior Event Advisor to the International Orienteering Federation and acted as a rules Juror during the Championships.
